NAD-RCMAR Scientist with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
Dr. Jueta B. McCutchan, PsyD was born and raised in American Samoa, holding chief titles from the villages of Tauese and Salelavalu in Samoa. Her educational and vocational pursuits were with the intention of returning to serve her community. Dr. McCutchan received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Seattle University, Master of Science and Doctor of Psychology degrees from Loyola University Maryland. She served in settings to include the Washington DC superior courts, Casa Pacific residential treatment center, and the Department of Human and Social Services in American Samoa.
Dr. McCutchan currently serves as the clinical psychologist for the Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin Veteran Affairs Clinic, serving veterans experiencing difficulties ranging from PTSD and Major Depressive Disorder to co-occurring substance use disorders. A clinician at heart, Dr. McCutchan is driven to engage in research that will lead to healthier Pacific Islander communities, with prevention and intervention behavioral health strategies that make sense for her community. She is a fierce advocate for mental health, spearheading the first American Samoa Mental Health Summit that is now in its fifth year. Her favorite quote is “work hard in silence; let success be your noise.”
